THE STORY BEGINS....
DEMETRIO MAURO, THE FOUNDER
The sixty years of Caffè Mauro's history have their roots in the tireless activity of Demetrio Mauro. Born in 1905 in Reggio Calabria, at just 10 years of age he began working as a hub boy on the ships of the Strait, while cultivating the great dream of creating his own business. In 1930, with so many sacrifices, Demetrio Mauro bought his first boat, the "Salvatore Padre" and in 1936 successfully transferred his interests to Africa, in the then Italian colonies, founding a travel agency. The events of the Second World War force Mauro to start from scratch. The adventure starts with a new passion. The coffee.
From the small roasting machine with a capacity of 20 kilos in 1949, Caffè Mauro in 1952 arrives at producing 3 quintals of roasted coffee a day. In 1957 the quintals became 15, still insufficient to cover the demands of the market, so much so as to make necessary the construction of the plant in Via Borrace, where in the early Sixties we produce 300 quintals per day in the various blends. An impressive ascent, which also results in the construction of the modern factory of Villa San Giovanni, in 1997, and which today is still destined to continue.
